Principles
03:33
|
|||
your principles don’t mean a thing to me
as you can see, I live without them
everyone knows just who they’re gonna be
I’ll be an outlaw, out on the streets
everybody knows just what to say
they know the way, and there’s no other
apparently you’ve hatched a master plan
to be a man, but I won’t bother
there’s no such thing as instinctive reaction
there’s only theory turned into action
don’t try to guide me through the dark tonight
gather your sheep, turn off the lights

Smoker
03:48
|
|||
if I were a smoker, I could just sit in the sun
looking like I don’t mind the tar filling up my lungs
lean on the wall that hides my personality
paint over my conscience with brushstrokes of vanity
but what can you do when your head is buzzing
no way to make it shut right up
give me a shot of your blissful ignorance straight into my blood
and watch me stumble til I find some peace of mind
if I were a believer, I could just pray to the sky
and take all the credit for when everything is fine
I’d stop my brain from worrying tirelessly all night
knowing mars and jupiter are gonna keep me satisfied
so have you got a little something that could help me get by
like a pack of cigarettes or something to glorify

Peggy Sue
03:13
|
|||
peggy sue
walking with a flower in her hair
she didn’t put it there, she don’t care
if anyone ever tries to stare at her at all
now I’m through
chasing after all these vain ones
they’re looking all the same, these plain ones
not a single thought to spare for them all
I dreamt that we were jumping on a lonely train
and they would never see our faces again
how about you, peggy sue
peggy sue
barefoot through the nettles she runs
never scared of any hindrance
jumping unconcerned of where she might fall
and unlike you
she’ll talk about those things that no one
ever tried to think of, it’s no fun
if you don’t ever risk anything at all
I dreamt that we were running through the midnight rain
and there was nothing that we’d have to explain
it’s up to you, peggy sue
now I’m standing in the pouring rain
and I wonder if I’ll ever see you again
I miss you, peggy sue

A Chance of Rain
03:34
|
|||
they say there’s a chance of rain
so nobody go outside
close the blinds and hide
beneath the comfort of our minds
they say there’s a chance of clouds
inflicting upon our fun
our frail happiness depends
on their position to the sun
they say there’s a chance of rain
crashing down upon our lands
let’s grasp hold of this chance
to be victims of circumstance
they say there’s a chance of rain
but the top of my head is dry
and I wonder whether it’s right
to trust the forecast or the sky
be careful not to get wet
I guess we’ll have to stay in
the decision isn’t ours
we can fight it, but we can’t win

Satellite
04:37
|
|||
when I awakened that morning
and the sun peered through your blinds
I got this sensation
that I couldn’t shake from my mind
and then I saw you
with that sad and sorrowful smile
you looked like you meant it
but I’ll settle for denial
girl, you’re putting me on trial
so I’m
gonna wait a little longer, but you know I’ll strike
before you know what made you do it
you’ll be on your way back to me
at the speed of light, in your satellite
girl you made the right decision
I’m distant and I’m cold
kept looking for silver, nevermind
if I was squandering gold
but your perfect face and music taste
are so hard to find
and you might feel different if you try
putting heart over mind
and now this feeling grows much stronger
whether it’s love or spite
and before you know what made you do it
you’ll be on your way back to me
at the speed of light, in your satellite
